Send SMS

About Send SMS

The Send SMS node is used to send an SMS text message from the workflow.

It is a service node and runs as part of the workflow logic when the workflow reaches that step.

How Send SMS works

When the workflow reaches this node, the configured SMS message is sent to the selected recipient phone number.

The node has one output path after the SMS step. What happens next depends on how the workflow is connected after the SMS node.

Settings

The node currently includes the following settings:

  • Node Name
  • Description
  • Recipient Phone Number
  • Message Content
  • Sender ID

Recipient Phone Number

The Recipient Phone Number field can use either a hardcoded phone number or a workflow variable, such as {mobilePhone}.

Only one recipient phone number can be used per Send SMS node. To send SMS messages to multiple recipients, add another Send SMS node.

Message Content

The Message Content field defines the SMS text.

Workflow variables can be used in the message content. The SMS message is limited to 160 characters.

Sender ID

The Sender ID defines the sender name shown on the SMS where supported.

The sender ID is alphanumeric and can contain up to 11 characters.

Custom sender IDs must be approved by Bynn and may also need approval per country. Unless a custom sender ID is required, we recommend leaving the default sender ID unchanged. Please contact Bynn support for more information. [email protected]

SMS Delivery Notes

SMS delivery depends on telecom operator filtering and spam checks. The workflow continues regardless of delivery status — failed SMS messages are not retried or reported back to the workflow.

If an SMS is not delivered:

  • Message was flagged as spam: Review the content for promotional language, excessive links, or terms like "free" that may trigger filters
  • Invalid phone number: Verify the phone number format is correct for the destination country
  • Unregistered sender ID: Custom sender IDs must be approved by Bynn and carrier before use

Keep SMS content short, direct, and informational. Avoid overly promotional wording, unnecessary links, pricing claims, or terms such as "free" unless they are required.
